Shifting Language lets you replace words with images and construct your own visual interpretatinon of a text.
By clicking on the highted words, you can choose the image that you feel best describe that word. With multiple ways of reading and interpretations, the meaning of the text also changes.
The website contains a piece of text from Kurt Vonnegut’s novel Player Piano about workers being replaced by machines. The idea stems from the shift from text-based to image-based communication across media. The audience is invited to replace the words with images, thus playing with the degree of interpretability of the text, and creating new meaning through juxtapositions.
